Hola, hunnies! (We just got back from Mexico and so obviously think I’m cute and cheeky saying hola to you guys *eye roll*). Well…it’s December – how in the heck did that happen?
December means taking the time to reflect on the past year, to brainstorm resolutions, to think about how you want to take the new year by storm. It’s also the time that we see “new year, new me” memes peppering every social channel. We all make jokes…trust me, I’m the first to the joke. Ex. Last year I posted a meme that said: “What did you get for Christmas?” “Fat…I got fat.” Which I still think is funny. Sue me.
But this year I’ve been thinking, for the first time in such a long time, that I am so insanely proud to be me. And I plan on going with it. Did I make mistakes this year? Hell yes. My mistakes vs. did things right tally is probably sitting at a solid 80/20 (in favour of the mistakes) for 2018, but it’s okay.
What I Learned
I learned how to problem solve. I learned how to navigate through the tough stuff on my own. I learned how to stand up for myself. I learned that investing in the people that invest in you is the best way to go. I learned that you do not have to keep toxic people in your life…in fact, get them out of your life as soon as you can, you’ll be better off for it. I learned to unapologetically love my quirks. I learned to love me, maybe, for the first time ever.
So instead of becoming a new version of me in 2019, I’m going to embrace the hell out of who I am right now and grow with her. I highly suggest that you all do the same because you’re pretty amazing once you see it in yourself. Don’t start from scratch, don’t try to reinvent yourself. You’re not a blank canvas. You are years of hard work, experiences, growth and beauty. Take that person and grow them. Refine them. Love them.
I am SO Grateful for This Year
I am at a loss for words when it comes to my gratitude for the people I’ve got to work with this year. From my couples, to families, bad ass women, one hell of a group of photographers + mentors, to my own family + friends – I am feeling BEYOND lucky. I’m going into 2019 with clear eyes, and a full heart so obvy I can’t lose *brownie points if you get this*.
We’re heading to Nova Scotia for the Holiday’s and TBH I can’t even wait. My parents are flying in from Nunavut, my sister is coming up from Nashville, we’re coming from Calgary and we’re all meeting in little old Bedford, Nova Scotia. Get the JD Shore, Randy Travis Christmas Album and the Quality Street chocolates ready because here we come!
Merry Christmas + a Very Happy New Year! Hug your loved ones tight this Christmas.
