The Back Story
What a fantastic whirlwind of an adventure this was! Matt was referred to me by a mutual friend. He reached out and told me that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in Banff, and told me that they’d be visiting from the states and I was freaking JAZZED. To date, this is one of the most exhilarating and fun shoots that I’ve ever been a part of.
The Game Plan
The plan was to head to Moraine Lake for sunrise (if you haven’t done it yet, put it on the bucket list). Matt sent me a photo of him and Mayu so I’d know who to look for on the morning of and we were off. I got to the top of the rock-pile at 6 AM and I’ll tell ya right now, my heart was beating out of my chest – and not just because I sprinted up the hill. I walked back and forth a few times until I spotted their heads peek over the steps and that’s when my light stalking commenced.
I kept my distance while I trailed behind them. Matt brought coffee and oatmeal for them to snack on as they watched the sunrise. Mayu was under the impression that she and Matt were there to catch the sunrise (true) but she didn’t know that I was creeping right behind them, about to catch the moment. After snacking, laughing, and Mayu asking me if I’d take a picture of them on her iPhone (HUNNIE…little do you know…), Matt got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was perfect.
They cried, I cried, and then Matt surprised her with an engagement shoot immediately following the proposal. They were travelling in a cutesie RV around the mountains so they had everything they needed to get dolled up for our shoot.
I hope you enjoy these shots as much as I loved taking them!
